The
2006 Arkansas Head Start Institute was held July 25-27,2006 at the Clarion
Resort on the Lake, Hot Springs, Arkansas. The conference attendance
was 150 participants.
Dave Hoffpauir, a therapist with the UAMS Strive Program, was the keynote speaker for the July
26, 2006 Opening
Session. Mr. Hoffpauir provided an introductory to current drug trends. He discussed the symptoms associated with use of
substances from each category and gave specific examples, brand names and
slang names of substances from each category.

was the keynote speaker for the July 27, 2006 Closing Session. She gave a
motivational presentation on the positive effect early childhood professionals
have on the families and children they serve.
Bentley
Black, the grandson of former Head Start Director Virginia Atkinson, provided
entertainment for both days. He sang a variety of patriotic and country
songs.
At
the Annual Meeting, on July 27 nominees for Region VI and NHSA Awards were
honored as well as the 2006 Outstanding Arkansas Head Start Teacher, Robert
Jackson from Arkansas Human Development Corporation EHS in Hot Springs, AR.
