Arkansas is excited to be hosting the 2017 Region VI Arkansas Head Start Institute at the Marriott Hotel and Statehouse Convention Center in Little Rock, Arkansas on August 27-31, 2017. Calling all Fatherhood Mentors: 

We would like to extend an invitation for you to serve as a mentor for our Statewide Fatherhood and Family Initiative: Fathers Engaged and Empowered to Learn (FEEL).The mission for this initiative is to strengthen family foundations and reverse the absentee fatherhood trend by helping fathers to understand the challenges of parenting, as well as, increase their skills in building and maintaining healthy relationships. Head Start programs serve low-income three and four year old children and their families. The purpose is to promote school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children through the provision of: educational, health, nutritional, social, other services.  There are 20 Head Start grantees in Arkansas serving 8,775 children and families.

Early Head Start (EHS) program serves low-income families with infants and toddlers and pregnant women. The purpose of EHS is to promote healthy prenatal outcomes for pregnant women, enhance the development of very young children, and promote healthy family functioning. There are 10 Early Head Start grantees serving 1,167 children and families.

Migrant/Seasonal Head Start programs serve children birth to five years of age and their families. Migrant families move from one geographic location to another for agriculture work. Seasonal families work primarily in seasonal agriculture and have not moved in two years. There is one grantee with two delegate agencies. They serve 368 children and families.

Arkansas Better Chance was created in 1991 to offer high-quality early education services to children birth to five exhibiting developmental/socioeconomic risk factors. In 2003, the program was expanded to serve low‐income three and four‐year old children. ABC for School Success, serves over 24,000 children in a variety of programs including Head Start.
